Karlheinz Seeger
Karlheinz Seeger (born May 16, 1927 in Bad Nauheim ; † April 7, 2008 ) was a full professor for materials physics at the University of Vienna and a corresponding member of the mathematical and natural science class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . He came to Vienna from Heidelberg in the mid-1960s , where he became professor of applied physics at the 2nd Physics Institute. From 1968 to 1995 he also headed the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Solid State Physics, which was founded in 1965 . In 1995 he retired.
The textbook he wrote on semiconductor physics has appeared in several editions and languages.
Awards and honors
- In 1976 Seeger received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st class .
- In 1992 he was awarded the Erwin Schrödinger Prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences for his life's work .
- The Austrian Physical Society has been awarding an annual promotion award for dissertations in the field of solid state physics since 1995, which has been known as the "Karlheinz Seeger Prize" since 1996.
