Karlheinz Suermondt
Karlheinz Suermondt (born June 4, 1922 in Munich ; † February 16, 2011 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German manager .
Career
Suermondt was born the son of the businessman JA Suermondt. He studied law and medicine at the University of Munich and in December 1950 submitted his doctoral thesis to its medical faculty.
He began his professional career at the pharmaceutical company Schering AG , where he held a managerial position in the branches in Egypt and Mexico. In 1961 he moved to the drug manufacturer Gödecke in Freiburg, where he was promoted to chairman of the board in 1962. Under his leadership, the company separated from its cosmetics division and concentrated entirely on the pharmaceutical business, which was growing continuously. When Suermondt withdrew from operational business in 1986, sales were around 400 million Deutschmarks. The company employed 1,600 people. He remained chairman of the supervisory board until 1992.
