Karmann-Mobil is a German company for motorhomes based in Sprendlingen in the Mainz-Bingen district, Rhineland-Palatinate . The Karmann-Mobil brand belongs to Eura Mobil GmbH.

history

Karmann-Mobil started with Wilhelm Karmann GmbH . It existed since 1901 and initially manufactured carriages. The company was best known for its body shop for automobile manufacturers such as VW , BMW and Ford .

Founder Wilhelm Karmann got the idea for his first motorhome on a trip to South Africa. The first vehicles under the name Karmann-Mobil were built from 1976 onwards on the basis of a Volkswagen T2 . This was followed by models on a Daimler-Benz 207D / 208 chassis. At the same time, the Postillion 4500 and 5000 caravan models were developed and launched on the market in 1982. There was also a third variant, the Postillion 5002 as a slimmed-down Postillion 5000. The motorhomes established themselves on the market, and caravan production was discontinued after a few years.

In the 1980s, Karmann presented the Gipsy and Cheetah models based on the Volkswagen T3 and the Karmann-Mobil on a Mercedes-Benz MB 100 .

The Distance wide introduced in the early 1990s was originally only planned as a special model of the Karmann-Mobil LT. The response was so great, however, that three more Distance Wide variants were presented the following year. In 1996 Karmann-Mobil presented the first models of the Missouri and Colorado series.

In 2000, Eura Mobil took over the Karmann-Mobil brand. The newly developed models Ontario and Davis appeared. Since 2012, Karmann-Mobil has specialized in the expansion of panel vans in which the original body remains, and currently no longer produces classic mobile homes.
