The Carmelite House

The Carmelite house near Flein is one of the art and cultural monuments in the Heilbronn district ( Baden-Württemberg ). The baroque vineyard house is named after the Heilbronn Carmelite monastery , which once owned extensive vineyards in Flein.

Geographical location

The Karmeliterhäuschen stands around 850 m northeast of the center of Flein on the southern flank of the Hagelsberg ( 265.5  m ), an elevation of the Heilbronn mountains covered by vineyards . The border to the city of Heilbronn runs about 50 m north of it .

description

Various vineyards around Flein originally belonged to the Lichtenstern Monastery , which they sold to the Heilbronn Carmelite Monastery in 1529. The house bears the year 1537 on the archway of the basement and was probably also built in that year. In the years 1609 and 1692 as well as in the 18th century the house was renovated or increased, which is also documented by completely or partially preserved dates.

The building is two-story and has a tent roof , which is decorated with a stick, knob and a monk as a weather vane. During the last restoration, the monk was given a cross. In 1980/1981 the building was in a ruinous state. Thereupon the local history association of Flein took the initiative and submitted an application to the local council and municipal administration in Flein. The Flein community acquired the Carmelite house along with 140 square meters of land and renovated it. The costs amounted to 21,559 DM, the State Monuments Office contributed 7934 DM. The house is a listed building.
