The Heilbronn Mountains in the city of Heilbronn with foothills in the Heilbronn district are up to 377.9 m above sea level. NHN high northwest foothills of the Löwenstein Mountains in Baden-Württemberg . Together with the Sulmer mountain range to the northeast, they are often referred to as the Heilbronner Bergland .

The Heilbronn Mountains form the northwestern foothills of the Löwenstein Mountains in the west-northwest of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains.
The landscape extends from north to east to south in a crescent shape around the city of Heilbronn. In the north and northeast it borders on the Weinsberger valley with the Sulmer mountain range beyond it , in the east on the west-northwest foothills of the Mainhardt Forest beyond the valley of the Stadtseebach ( Saubach ) , in the southeast it merges into the actual Löwenstein mountains and in the southwest, In the west and north-west it falls into the Neckar basin with Keuperschicht stages .
Settlements are located on the edges of the Heilbronn Mountains, with some locations, especially those of Heilbronn, reaching into the landscape: Erlenbach and Weinsberg in the north, Lehrensteinsfeld (a little further away) in the east, Obergruppenbach in the southeast, Untergruppenbach in the south, Flein and Sontheim in the Southwest, Heilbronn in the west and Neckarsulm in the northwest.
Natural structure
From a natural point of view, the Heilbronn Mountains (number 108.13) with the Weinsberger Tal (108.12) and the Sulmer Bergebene (108.11) as parts of the Löwensteiner Berge (108.1) in the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land (10) belong to the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains (108 ).

The flowing waters of the Heilbronn Mountains or their foothills include:
- Neckar , rises near Schwenningen , flows west of the Heilbronn Mountains through Heilbronn and flows into the Rhine near Mannheim
- Schozach , rises near Untergruppenbach- Vorhof and flows south of the Heilbronn Mountains initially southwest through Abstatt to Ilsfeld and then northwest through Talheim to Heilbronn- Sontheim , where it flows into the Neckar
- Gruppenbach , which has its source near Untergruppenbach- Obergruppenbach , flows south of the Heilbronn Mountains through Untergruppenbach to Auenstein , where it flows into the Schozach
- Pfühlbach , which rises as Köpferbach on the Schweinsberg , flows in the Köpfertal first northwards through the Heilbronn Mountains and then westwards through Heilbronn , where it flows into the Neckar
- Deinbach , rises between Untergruppenbach and Flein , passes the Heilbronn Mountains to the southwest, flows through Flein and flows into the Neckar at Heilbronn-Sontheim
- Sulm , which rises near Löwenstein, touches the Heilbronn Mountains to the northeast near Weinsberg in the Weinsberger Valley , flows mostly northwest and flows into the Neckar near Untereisesheim
- Stadtseebach ( Saubach ), rises near the Hintersberg , drains the Heilbronn Mountains through Weinsberg and flows into the Sulm in the Weinsberger Tal near Erlenbach

geology
From a geological point of view, the Heilbronn Mountains in the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land belong to the Germanic Triassic of the Middle Ages and can be assigned to the Keuper, i.e. they were formed about 220 million years ago. Their surveys are isolated Black Jura hilltops that the Knoll marl rest. The Heilbronn sandstone comes from their landscape .

Flora and economy
The Heilbronn mountains are especially forested in their high areas, and viticulture is practiced in lower areas and some agriculture is practiced in peripheral areas.
Protected areas
In the Heilbronn Mountains there is part of the fauna-flora-habitat area Löwensteiner and Heilbronner Berge (FFH No. 7021-341), which is 54.27 km² in size, of which 9.91 km² belongs to the Heilbronn city area. This is also where these landscape protection areas, founded in 1983, are located : the 12.26 km² LSG Galgenberg – Schweinsberg – Staufenberg , the 3.2 km² LSG Stiftsberg – Wartberg and the 0.1 km² LSG deinbachtal . There are also these three nature reserves : the 0.32 km² large NSG Köpfertal, founded in 1935 and the 0.29 km² large NSG reed sand quarry near the Jägerhaus with the surrounding area and, in the eastern foothills of the landscape, the 2002 founded and 0, 2 km² large NSG Brühl .
