Karol Jan Schneeweiss , pseudonym David van Berg , (born November 29, 1953 in Breslau , Poland , † March 31, 2015 in Hamburg ) was a German filmmaker .

Life

Born in Wrocław (Breslau) and raised in Stuttgart , he first completed an apprenticeship as a window dresser, then studied at the Free Art School in Stuttgart, before studying at the Art Academy Düsseldorf from 1976 to 1981 - Film / Theater "Free Art" department at Nam June Paik , Ole John and Joseph Beuys . His last unfinished project was called The Order - Finnish Vampires Don't Bite! .

Karol Schneeweiss was influenced by the German auteur film movement of the 70s and 80s, on the other hand he loved Hollywood cinema, although he rejected its hierarchical structures. Companions were Gabor Altoray, Rainer Kirberg and Oliver Hirschbiegel . He was temporarily a member of the Hamburg film office and worked with the cameramen Uli Fischer and Axel Schäffler as well as with the visual artist Zoyt .
