Karolin Back

Karolin Back (* 1980 in Stuttgart ) is a German artist and photographer . Her work includes photography, video, installations and conceptual art .

life and work

Karolin Back grew up in Stuttgart. After training as a carpenter (2001–2004) with subsequent training as a designer in the craft, she initially worked as a freelance designer in the craft. From 2007 to 2013 Back studied art at the Offenbach am Main University of Design with Martin Liebscher .

In 2014 she won the “ Gute aussichten - Junge deutsche Fotografie ” award for her thesis “What is a second when the world is next to it” .

In 2015 she received the Talents Prize from C / O Berlin . An exhibition catalog entitled “play loud” was published by Kehrerverlag for this exhibition.

Her work has been shown in solo group exhibitions at home and abroad. Among others in Berlin , Hamburg , Frankfurt am Main , Mexico City , Washington , Nicosia , Tallinn and Łódź .

Back's installations and photographs often play with the representation and perception of photography. How does the medium of photography influence our memories, our seeing, our behavior and our perception?
