Karoline Friederike von Waldenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karoline Friederike Louise Wichmann , later von Waldenburg (* probably October 25, 1781 in Potsdam , † January 1, 1844 in Rome ), was the first companion of Prince August of Prussia (1779–1843), the youngest son of Prince Ferdinand of Prussia and the Luise Margravine of Brandenburg-Schwedt , and mother of his first four children.

Life

Karoline Friederike Louise was a daughter of Johann Friedrich Joost Wichmann and Anna Dorothea Dechwitz. It is not certain whether, as stated in sources, the day of her baptism was actually her birthday. What is certain is that she was baptized on October 25, 1781 in the Church of St. Nikolai in Potsdam. Even if both have lived in a marriage-like relationship for many years, in this case one must not speak of a morganatic marriage , since nothing is known of a marriage to Prince August.

On September 28, 1810, Karoline Wichmann was raised in Berlin together with her children Eduard (* May 24, 1807 in Soissons ; † February 17, 1882 in Menton ) and Eveline († 1848) in the Prussian nobility with the name "von Waldenburg". Further uprisings of the nobility followed on August 31, 1815 in Paris for daughter Emilie (1815-1893) and on March 16, 1818 in Berlin for daughter Mathilde (1817-1884). 1859-1945 the Lower Silesian rule Würben was owned by their descendants from Waldenburg.

Although she died in Rome, Karoline Friederike von Waldenburg was buried in the Dorotheenstadt cemetery in Berlin .
