Karpel Lippe (actually Nathan Petachja ; born November 17, 1830 in Stanislau , Galicia , † August 2, 1915 in Vienna ) was a doctor in Jassy, Romania, and a Zionist. He became known through some writings against anti-Semitism .

Life

Lippe joined the Chowewe Zion , one of whose first leaders in Romania he was (since 1882) and at whose Katowice Conference (1884) he took part. For a time he chaired the first Zionist congress in Basel as senior president (and never stopped talking despite Theodor Herzl's repeated requests to come to an end). Karpel Lippe spent the last years of his life in Przemyśl from 1911 and in Vienna from 1914, where he died a year later.
