Karyn Lynn Bye-Dietz , b. Bye , (born May 18, 1971 in River Falls , Wisconsin ) is a former American ice hockey player . She has been a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame since 2011 .
Dietz had been a member of the US women's national team since 1992 , with which she won the silver medal at the World Championships six times in a row between 1992 and 2001. The defender celebrated her greatest success at the 1998 Winter Olympics when she led her team to win the gold medal with five goals in six games. She also won the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics . In addition to being inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame, she was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
She has been surnamed Bye-Dietz since marrying a hockey coach from the University of Minnesota .
