history

Since there was a high demand for trained specialists on the territory of the Kazakh Soviet Republic , especially from the 1930s, the institute was founded in the capital Alma-Ata by resolution of the Council of People's Commissars . So in 1934 today's university was established as the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgy Institute (Казахский горно-металлургический институт). It consisted of only two faculties, which included Bergau on the one hand and non-ferrous metals on the other. Teaching began on September 19, 1934.

In 1960 the institute was renamed the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute (Казахский политехнический институт). In January 1980 the Institute for Architecture and Construction was opened, which today represents the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering of the university.

After Kazakhstan's independence from the Soviet Union, the facility was given a new name. In 1994 it was renamed the Kazakh National Technical University .
