Kashmir is a rock band from Denmark formed in 1991 by Kasper Eistrup, Mads Tunebjerg and Asger Techau. They play melodic indie rock and are often compared to the early Radioheads , especially because of their high-pitched voice .

history

The band first came together in 1991 under the name Nirvana , but changed their name after the great popularity of the US band of the same name . Finally, they named themselves after a song by Led Zeppelin in Kashmir to. After the group had released their first two albums as a trio, keyboardist Henrik Lindstrand only joined the band when they were recording their third studio album, The Good Life (1999). This album was very successful in Denmark and earned Kashmir six Danish Grammys. The follow-up album Zitilites (2003) was number 1 in the Danish album hit parade after just one week and achieved platinum status. It also made the band better known internationally.

For the fifth album, No Balance Palace (2005), Kashmir was able to win Lou Reed and David Bowie over for a song each, the latter singing the duet The Cynic with Eistrup. The cover of the album shows a work by the Russian painter El Lissitzky : the constructivist design for his Abstract Cabinet in the Sprengel Museum Hannover .
