Kaspar Baldung (* around 1480 probably in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † 1540 ) was a lawyer .

Life

Baldung was the brother of the painter Hans Baldung , their father is unknown.

Baldung enrolled at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau in 1499 and received his master's degree in 1503 . After teaching at the Philosophical Faculty, he switched to the legal subject. He was named Dr. jur. From 1510 to 1522 he taught as a professor at the Faculty of Law. In 1521 he was rector of the university.

In 1522 he followed Sebastian Brant as a city lawyer from Strasbourg , where he worked until 1531. He was then occupied as an assessor at the Reich Chamber of Commerce in 1531/32 .

Baldung has also emerged as a historian. In 1538, Gangolf von Hohengeroldseck asked Baldung for a statement on the family history of the Geroldsecker from Matthäus Marschall von Pappenheim (handed down as a later copy in the General State Archives Karlsruhe 111/269)

With Anna Kaufmann, whom he married in 1513 or earlier, his children included a son Johann and two daughters. The daughter Magdalena married Philipp von Gottesheim first, and Johann Bernhard Rümelin the second.

He owned the house on the beautiful corner in Freiburg (today Münsterplatz 30).
