The Kasteel de Wildenborch is a castle and estate in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It is located between the villages of Lochem , Ruurlo and Vorden in the Bronckhorst municipality . Until the middle of the 16th century it was owned by the von Wisch family, an important family in the Duchy of Geldern .

history

De Wildenborch was first mentioned in 1372 when the robber baron Sweder Rodebaert von Wisch was the owner of the castle. The facility was strategically located and surrounded by swamps and was an ideal retreat after raids. The lords of Wisch regularly held raids in the areas of the County of Zutphen and the Lordship of Overijssel . In response which in 1490 besieged Deventer citizens Wildenborch and Zutphen citizens the Kasteel wiping in Terborg , but without much success.

Under pressure from Duke Karl von Geldern , who besieged the complex three times in vain, lord Johann von Wisch finally gave up in 1512 and the castle became a ducal open house . But Johann's grandson Joachim von Wisch again undertook raids from 1519, so that in 1523 the duke stationed a permanent crew at the castle and had the fortifications razed .

With the death of Joachim von Wisch in 1544, the von Wisch family died out in the male line and the inheritance went to his sister Irmgard , wife of Georg von Limburg-Styrum .

In 1757, Count Wilhelm Otto Friedrich von Quadt transferred the Wildenborch estate to the architects Matthieu and François Soiron from Maastricht , out of gratitude for their work on the construction of Wickrath Castle near Mönchengladbach . A good ten years later, the brothers sold the estate. It has belonged to the Staring family since 1780 until today. The Dutch poet ACW Staring lived here in the 19th century .
