Katalin Ladik (born October 25, 1942 in Novi Sad ) is a Yugoslav - Hungarian poet , performer and filmmaker .

life and work

Katalin Ladik started writing in 1962 while working as a bank clerk. She was a radio presenter and stage actress in Novi Sad, later she worked for film and television. In 1990 she became an editor and taught music and theater.

She uses visual poetry , mail art , radio play , prose , collage , photography, film and experimental music as artistic media . Ladik explores language through visual and vocal expressions, as well as through movement and gestures. Ladik has appeared again and again in the context of performances, happenings and theater pieces, which often take place in urban surroundings , but also in nature. She was a member of the artist collective Bosch + Bosch . Katalin Ladik lives and works alternately in Novi Sad (Serbia), in Budapest (Hungary) and on the island of Hvar (Croatia).

In her home country she became a legendary and controversial figure in the early 1960s, primarily through feminist - shamanistic sound poetry and nude performances.

Ladik has received several awards and has played in numerous national and international exhibitions. In 1977 she made a name for herself as a participant in the 10th International Sound Poetry Festival in Amsterdam. In 2010 a retrospective took place in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, which received national attention, and in 2017 she was invited to take part in documenta 14 . She was also included in the Feminist Avant-Garde exhibition series.
