Katarzyna Gdaniec

Katarzyna Gdaniec (born March 21, 1965 in Skórcz ( German Skurz )) is a Polish ballet dancer and choreographer . Together with Marco Cantalupo, she was awarded the “Grand Prix de la danse” of the Vaudois Cultural Foundation in 2012, which only Philippe Saire received before them .

Life

1974 Gdaniec won the European Junior Championships in artistic gymnastics . She then studied ballet at the Vaganova Academy in Leningrad and at the National Dance School in Gdansk , where she received a scholarship from the National Children's Fund. She won first prize at the Gdańsk National Competition and the “Prix de Lausanne” at the 11th International Competition for Young Dancers in Lausanne .

From 1985 to 1992 Gdaniec danced as a soloist in the Ballet du XXe siècle by Maurice Béjart . There she made her first choreographies from 1987, which she presented as part of the “Young Choreographers” of the ballet.

In 1992 Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo founded the Compagnie Linga at the L' Octogone Theater in Pully , where she is also a choreographer. In 20 years he created 50 choreographic works. Some of her works have received prizes and awards or, like the «Concerto», are part of the repertoire of the operas in Ankara, Florence and Lisbon.

In 1997 Gdaniec sat on the jury of the seventh Eurovision Young Dancers .
