Kate Saunders (writer)

Kate Saunders (born May 4, 1960 in London ) is a British writer , actress and journalist .

Life

Her mother Betty, nee Smith (1928-1997), was a journalist and wrote for the Daily Mirror and the Church Times , among others , her father Basil (1925-1998) studied at Oxford University and worked in the PR industry, under for General Electric and the Wellcome Foundation, among others . After getting married in 1957, the couple had four daughters and two sons. Kate is the second of these six siblings.

She initially worked as an actress, but increasingly turned to writing. She appeared in numerous TV series, including 1982 in Only Fools and Horses . Together with Peter Stanford, she hosted the miniseries Catholics and Sex on Channel 4 in 1992 , based on their book of the same name. She has also appeared in BBC Radio 4 formats such as Woman's Hour , Start the Week and Kaleidoscope .

She has subsequently written numerous books and works as a journalist and reviewer for newspapers and magazines in England such as The Sunday Times , Sunday Express , The Daily Telegraph and Cosmopolitan . In 1994 she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis .

Kate Saunders writes novels and children's books that are part of fantastic literature. In addition to the occurrences and problems of the real everyday world, a fantastic storyline is introduced. A year after her 19-year-old son's suicide in 2012, she began writing Five Children on the Western Front , set at the time of World War I. The book is a continuation of Five Children And It by the writer Edith Nesbit , who dedicated the book to her son Fabian, who died at the age of 15.

Saunders served as a judge for the Man Booker Prize and the 2007 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction . She lives in London.
