Katharina Fleischer-Edel
Katharina Fleischer-Edel , née Katharina Edel (born September 27, 1873 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † July 18, 1928 in Dresden ) was a German opera singer (soprano) and well-known Wagner interpreter of her time.
Live and act
She first studied at the Conservatory in Cologne, then with August Iffert in Dresden. There she made her debut in 1893 in a concert by the Dresdner Liedertafel. In 1894 she made her stage debut at the Dresden Court Opera as a bridesmaid in Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz . After three years in Dresden, she was engaged by Bernhard Pollini at the Stadttheater (Opera) in Hamburg in 1897 , where she worked as a celebrated soprano for 20 years. She made a name for herself especially as a Wagner interpreter. During their time in Hamburg they made numerous guest appearances in other European and non-European countries. From 1905 to 1907 she made guest appearances at the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden and in 1906/07 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Between 1904 and 1908 the renowned Wagner interpreter was engaged several times at the Bayreuth Festival . After she retired in Dresden, she continued to work as a singing guide.
