Katharina Nohl

Katharina Nohl (* 1973 in the GDR ) is a German composer and pianist .

Live and act

Nohl studied piano, performance and musicology . in Southampton , Ferrara and London . She then lived in Munich for some time and then studied with Alfons Kontarsky at the Mozarteum Salzburg and with Werner Bärtschi .

She has been a composer since 2015. Her first work was the reinterpretation of the Turkish folk song Üsküdar'a gider iken by Fazıl Say . In 2016 she released her debut album Creating Childhood on OehmsClassics .

She has been giving international concerts since 2017.

Nohl composed the work By the Baltic Sea for the Youth Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg . The world premiere took place with her as a pianist in July 2019 in St. Petersburg .

Nohl is co-founder of the Swiss Female Composers Festival . In cooperation with the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the festival for women composers will take place for the first time in 2020.

She has lived in Switzerland since 2002, is married and has two daughters.
