Katharina Tiwald

Katharina Tiwald (* 1979 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian poet, playwright and storyteller.

Live and act

Tiwald studied Linguistics and Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna , the State University of Saint Petersburg and the University of Glasgow . She is teaching Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna.

As a freelance writer, Tiwald published numerous narrative and lyrical works. She wrote pieces for the stage, some of which she herself participated in as an actress. In 2007 she played in her stage work Messe für Eine in the Offenen Haus Oberwart and in 2009 in the KosmosTheater in Vienna and at the “Theaterland Steiermark” festival.

The Standard wrote about Messe für Eine : "Katharina Tiwald challenges the moral authority of the Catholic Church and asks in the piece about the meaning of guilt and atonement, suffering and redemption - without, however, praying for and praying about the discourse on power."

The two pieces of body light & schlüsselpein and the death and the girl were on the occasion of Egon Schiele in -Fests 2011 St. Pölten listed. In December of the same year, Tiwald's stage work Das Cosima Panorama was premiered.

Katharina Tiwald has won several literary prizes. In 2007 she received the BEWAG Literature Prize , in 2009 a sponsorship prize from the Theodor Kery Foundation and in 2009/2010 the state scholarship for literature. Her work on the novel Weisse was supported in 2010 and 2011 by the Hans Weigel grant from the state of Lower Austria ,

Katharina Tiwald lives and works in Vienna and in southern Burgenland . She also heads the Burgenland branch of the PEN writers' association .
