Catherine of Racconigi
Katharina von Racconigi (* 1486 in Racconigi ; † September 4, 1547 in Caramagna ) was a virgin and terziar of the order of preachers. She is venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church .
Katharina von Racconigi was born in 1486 into a family of craftsmen in Racconigi in the province of Cuneo. At the age of 28 she entered the third order of the Dominicans as a terziar and led a very ascetic life. It is reported that Catherine wore the stigmata of Christ . She was therefore revered, but at the same time envied, persecuted and died lonely.
After her death, her reputation spread. The contemporary philosopher Giovanni Pico della Mirandola had known Katharina von Racconigi and wrote a biography of Catherine. In 1808 the Holy See confirmed the veneration of Catherine of Racconigi as a blessed. Her liturgical feast day is September 4th .
