Catherine portal
The Katharinenportal is a listed portal in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in Magdeburg's old town on the east side of the Breite Weg immediately south of the Katharinenturm (formerly: House of Teachers), north of the Breiter Weg 27–30 block and spans Schopenstrasse.
Architecture and history
The portal was built in 1668 and served as the entrance to the Sankt Katharinen Church , which was consecrated in 1679. The portal is designed as a profiled round arch . It is flanked by Ionic pilasters over which there is a cranked cornice and a cartouche. Above it is a profiled gable , which is crowned by a figure of Saint Catherine . The figure is provided with a palm branch and a wheel, the typical attribute of Saint Catherine.
In 1944 the church was badly damaged in an air raid during World War II . After the end of the war, the preserved outer walls were torn down. The two church towers and the portal were initially preserved. In 1966 the towers were also torn down. However, the portal was recovered. The sculpture of Saint Catherine was brought to the Wallonerkirche , the remaining parts of the portal were stored on the company premises of the Schuster company at Münchenhofstrasse 68 in Magdeburg's Neue Neustadt district . In 2016, the restored portal was rebuilt near its original location.
In the local register of monuments , the house sign is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 06324 .
