Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit Cathedral ( French Cathédrale Saint Esprit de Kpalimé ), known as the Cathedral of Kpalimé , is a place of worship in the Middle Togolese city of Kpalime (also called Palimé) in West Africa .

The parish of the Holy Spirit was founded in 1902 by Hermann Bücking SVD , the first Apostolic Prefect of Togo, when Togo was a colony (or a protected area ) of the German Empire under the name Togoland . German missionaries laid the foundation stone for today's church in 1913 and the building was consecrated in 1914. The Heiliggeistkirche was extensively renovated by the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart from 2001 and inaugurated again as a cathedral in 2003 .

The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit follows the Roman or Latin rite and serves as the seat of the diocese of Kpalime , which was formed in 1994 by the bull "Supremo in Ecclesia" by Pope John Paul II .
