The name "Kathi" stands for the names of the company's founders, Ka ethe and Kurt Thi ele.

history

The Kathi nutrient factory Kurt Thiele KG was founded on March 31, 1951, when it was entered in the commercial register and initially began with the production of soups , sauces and cake flour . Four years after it was founded, the company was already exporting to other Scandinavian countries. In 1953 the cake flour mix was brought onto the market. This baking mix is still one of the most popular products today. From January 1, 1957, Kathi becomes KATHI - Nutrient Factory Kurt Thiele KG (limited partnership) . The operation will now be continued with the state majority holding. Kurt Thiele remains with the company as general partner. In 1959 Kurt Thiele acquired the company “Dr. Backhoff Leipzig ". With this, the rights to baking powder recipes also passed into his possession. In the middle of 1965, the Economic Council issued an export ban by order of the state.

From 1969, further compulsory state regulation measures followed. From now on Kathi had to limit herself to the production of baking mixes . The other branches had to be shifted to other planned economy companies. On April 1, 1972, the owners, like other private-sector companies in the GDR , were finally expropriated. From then on, the company continued its production under the name “ VEB Backmehlwerk Halle”. In 1980 Kathi was finally integrated into the " VEB Kombinat Nahrungsmittel und Kaffee Halle". This brought the company completely into line.

The company was represented at numerous exhibitions and trade fairs in the GDR and received many product-related awards. From 1951 to 1990 the company was represented with its products at the Leipzig spring and autumn fair. During this period, some products were awarded the gold medal of the Leipziger Messe (Messegold). For example, on March 16, 1979 at the Leipzig spring fair, the product breakfast pastries, a ready-to-bake flour mixture . In 1974 the ready-to-bake flour, English cake received the gold medal of the most important agricultural exhibition in the GDR (the agra (Markkleeberg) ).

It is noteworthy that the brand name Kathi continued to be protected by trademark law. This was possible because of the fees paid to the Berlin Patent Office by Rainer Thiele, the son of the founders Kaethe and Kurt Thiele. This meant that all product packages had to continue to bear the name Kathi, even if it was greatly reduced in size.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in February 1990, Rainer Thiele submitted the re-privatization application for the company. The application was approved and the company was re-privatized and transferred back on June 1, 1991, with retroactive effect from January 1, 1991. Thus, on January 1, 1992, the "KATHI Rainer Thiele GmbH" was founded. The entry in the commercial register took place on July 16, 1992.

Between 1993 and 1994 investments were made in the renovation and expansion of the new company location in Halle-Diemitz. Almost 10 years later, the young generation of the owner family gradually took over full management of the company. In 2009 the generation change at KATHI Rainer Thiele GmbH was completed.
