history

The previous church of St. Margaretha was destroyed in the First Austrian Turkish War in 1532.

Today's church building was started in 1654 by Count Ádám I. Batthyány and was not completed until 1679 under his grandson Adam II Batthyány .

The church was renovated from 1728 to 1730 and 1750. In 1850 the church was restored and rebuilt.

architecture

The baroque building with a stepped gable in the south has a porch with a coat of arms of the noble Batthyány family . On both sides of the nave under a barrel vault with stitch caps there are sacristy additions and transept chapels. The wall painting in the nave is by Fritz Silberbauer (1935). A mighty church tower with a pointed spire is built next to the retracted choir.
