Kathrin Schweizer

Kathrin Schweizer (born May 19, 1969 in Basel ; resident in Muttenz ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ) and a member of the Basel government.

Life

From 1976 to 1988, Kathrin Schweizer attended all schools up to the Matura type C (mathematics) in Muttenz . In 1997 she completed her Biology I degree with a minor in physics at the University of Basel . She wrote her diploma thesis on the subject of "Interactions between Rhinanthus minor and its host plants under increased CO 2 ". From 1998 to 2000, Schweizer completed postgraduate studies in the environment at the Basel University of Applied Sciences (now FHNW ). She wrote her diploma thesis on the subject of “Customer traffic in the retail trade”. In 2000, Kathrin Schweizer began her work as managing director of Pro Velo in Basel. She led an association with several thousand members and employees. Since 2010 she has been working as a project manager in the planning office (building and transport department) Basel-Stadt. From 2013 to 2014 she successfully completed a CAS further education in politics at the HSG St. Gallen .

Kathrin Schweizer has been married since 2003 and lives in Muttenz.

From 1998 to 2009 Kathrin Schweizer held various offices in Muttenz local politics. She was a member of the municipal commission, the business audit commission and presided over the safety and environmental commission. In 2007 she was elected to the district administrator. There she was a member of the district building and planning committee until 2015. Then she switched to the finance committee. From 2011 onwards, Schweizer led the district SP parliamentary group. In 2016, she was replaced in this role by Miriam Locher from Münchenstein . In October 2015, Schweizer ran for the National Council and achieved the good result as the first successor. In 2015 she was elected as a councilor of Muttenz in a replacement election. There she was in charge of the Department of Social Affairs and Health. In the same year she was re-elected as district administrator. From 2016 to the beginning of 2019, Kathrin Schweizer was Co-President of SP Muttenz. In the 2016 municipal elections, she was re-elected as a councilor with the best result. From 2016 until her election to the Basel government council, she was Vice President of the Muttenz municipality.

In March 2018, Schweizer announced that she wanted to run for the Basel government in the 2019 general election. At the same time, Schweizer decided not to move up to the National Council, which would have been possible with the resignation of Susanne Leutenegger Oberholzer . Schweizer was nominated by the SP Baselland as the only candidate for the government elections in June 2018. For the Swiss, transport policy, financial policy and partnership relationships with neighboring cantons and neighboring countries are particularly important.

In the general election of March 31, 2019 for the government council of the canton of Baselland, Schweizer was elected with 37,187 votes. She achieved the third best result. With the election of Schweizer, the SP Baselland is again represented in the cantonal government after four years. At the same time, Schweizer announced their resignation from the district administrator and Muttenz municipal council at the end of June 2019. On April 2, 2019, it was announced that Kathrin Schweizer will take over the security management. She also acts as Isaac Reber's deputy in the building and environmental protection department. She took office on July 1, 2019.
