Kathy Halbreich

Kathy Halbreich (born April 24, 1949 in New York City ) is an American curator and museum director.

life and work

Kathy Halbreich was initially a curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and later director and curator of the List Visual Arts Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . From 1991 to 2008 she ran the Walker Art Center . Exhibitions by Chantal Akerman , Joseph Beuys , Chuck Close , Bruce Nauman , Kiki Smith and Kara Walker took place under her direction. Halbreich has been Deputy Director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 2008 .

As a representative for North America and Cuba, she took part in the organization of the Gwangju Biennale . She was a consultant for Carnegie International and a member of the search committee for documenta X and dOCUMENTA (13) .
