Katrina Leskanich (born April 10, 1960 in Topeka , Kansas ) is an American singer, best known as the front woman and lead singer of the band Katrina and the Waves , which won the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 with the title Love Shine a Light . Katrina and the Waves had their breakthrough in 1985 with the song Walking on Sunshine .

Leskanich daughter is a USAF - Colonels . She grew up with five siblings in her native Topeka, until the family moved to Europe. After a few years in Germany and the Netherlands, Leskanich came to London in 1976 , where she still lives today.

From 1998, after leaving Katrina and the Waves, Leskanich hosted an evening program lasting several hours every day for four years on the BBC Radio 2. She also sang the leading role in the musical Leader of the Pack by Ellie Greenwich .

In 2005 Leskanich founded a new band to take part in the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . Originally they called themselves again Katrina and the New Wave, but the displeasure of previous band members led to the abrupt name change. As Katrina and the Nameless , with the song As if tomorrow will never come written by Thomas G: son , they only reached third place in the fourth semifinals and thus the “second chance” round, where they finally failed to make it to the final in sixth place. However, together with Renārs Kaupers , the leader of the Latvian band Brainstorm , she moderated the anniversary show Congratulations for the 50th anniversary of the ESC. In 2006 the solo CD Katrina Leskanich was released.

From 2012 onwards, Katrina Leskanich played more concerts with her own band, especially in Scandinavian countries such as Sweden and Norway, but also occasionally in Belgium, Spain and Germany. In October 2013 she made a guest appearance at the Steinegg Live Festival.
