AB Kauno ketaus liejykla (dt. 'Eisengießerei Kaunas AG') was the largest iron foundry in the Baltic countries with. The company was located in the Petrašiūnai district in Kaunas ( Lithuania ).

history

In 1959 construction began on the plant. The "Centrolitas" cast iron plant was founded to produce gray and nodular cast iron for use in a wide variety of industries. The first cast iron was made in 1962. In 1966, the company became the first in the Soviet Union to produce synthetic iron. In 1984 the company had 1,780 employees.

In 1991 the company was transformed into a joint stock company ( Akcinė bendrovė ). Since 1996 the company has been owned by the Lithuanian group EBSW . In 2004 it was restructured. In 2005 the company had over 440 employees. The production capacity was around 20,000 tons of castings per year. Since 2007 the company has been managed by UAB “KKL investicijų valdymas” . The foundry ceased operations in 2009, and insolvency proceedings took place in 2010 .

The Kaunas iron foundry exported over 90 percent of its total production. to Sweden , Finland , Germany , Switzerland and Italy .
