Kazuki Yamada

Kazuki Yamada ( Japanese 山田 和 樹 , Yamada Kazuki ; * 1979 in Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese conductor and orchestra leader .

Life

Yamada began his musical career with piano lessons and studied conducting in Tokyo at the Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku , the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo . His teachers there were among others Ken'ichirō Kobayashi and Yoko Matsuo . In 2001 he finished his studies, during which he founded the Yokohama Sinfonietta , which he still directs today. Then in 2002 he went to the International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg for further studies under Gerhard Markson . In 2006 he conducted the Japanese NHK symphony orchestra and in the following years various Japanese orchestras including the Kanazawa orchestra ensemble . During this time he was also the conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Choir . In 2009 he was the winner of the 51st International Competition for Young Conductors in Besançon, France . In the same year he also conducted the Orchester de Paris on behalf of Michel Plasson .

Yamada has lived in Berlin with his family since 2010 . In the 2012/2013 season he took over the post of Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchester de la Suisse Romande .

Prizes and awards

  • 2001: Ataka Prize.
  • 2009: Great Conducting Award at the 51st International Competition for Young Conductors in Besançon.
  • 2011: Idemitsu Music Prize.
