Kebili ( Arabic ڨبلي) is a city in southern Tunisia with 18,693 inhabitants (as of 2004).
The capital of the governorate of the same name is located between the cities of Douz , 27 km to the south, Tozeur , 80 km to the west and Gabès , 107 km to the east. The city is also located between two salt lakes , east of the Chott el Djerid and south of the Chott el Fedjadj, as it were on a peninsula.
Kebili is one of the oldest oases in Tunisia and North Africa with around 100,000 date palms . In addition to Arabs and Berbers, many black Africans live in the city. Kebili used to be a center of the slave trade to Europe, which ran through the port of Gabès.
On July 7, 1931, a temperature of 55 ° C was measured in Kebili, which is still the heat record for Africa today .
