Keith John Charles Bradley, Baron Bradley , PC (born May 17, 1950 in Birmingham ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ) and life peer . He was a Member of the House of Commons for the Manchester Withington constituency from 1987 to 2005 .

Life

Bradley attended Bishop Vesey's Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield . He studied at Aston University , graduating with a Diploma of Accounting (DipAcct) in 1970. In 1976 he received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Manchester Polytechnic . He graduated from the University of York in 1978 with a Master of Philosophy . From 1969 to 1973 he worked as a sworn auditor for the firm Charles Impey & Co . He was a Research Officer for the Housing Department of Manchester City Council from 1978 to 1981. From 1981 to 1987 he was Secretary of Stockport of the Community Health Council . From 1984 to 1988 he was chairman of the Environment and Consumer Services Committee. Bradley was City Council Director of Manchester Ship Canal Co from 1984 to 1987 and of Manchester Airport plc from 1984 to 1987.

Bradley has been married to Rhona Ann Graham since 1987. They have two sons and a daughter.

Membership in the House of Commons

Bradley was elected to the House of Commons for the first time in 1987, after he had previously been in Old Moat Ward ( Manchester ) as a councilor ("Councilor") until 1988. He succeeded Frederick Silvester . From 1991 to 1996 he was shadow minister for social security ("Shadow Minister for social security"). From 1996 to 1997 he was shadow minister for transport. After the 1997 election, he became Parliamentary State Secretary in the Department of Social Security and then in 1998 Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of the Queen's Household from 1998 to 2001. Bradley was Minister of State in the Home Office ("Minister for Criminal Justice, Sentencing and Law") of 2001 to 2002 and then backbencher and member of the “Health Select Committee” 2003. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Privy Council . Bradley lost his seat in parliament when he said the candidate in the 2005 election Liberal Democrats , John Leech , among many.

Membership in the House of Lords

In April 2006, it was announced that Bradley would be named a Life Peer . On June 12, 2006 he became Baron Bradley, of Withington in the County of Greater Manchester. Since 2007 he has been a member of the House special committee. As his political interests he gives the local administration, housing, health policy , pensions , poverty and sport . He mentions the People's Republic of China , France and the USA as states of particular interest .

Further offices and honors

Bradley is also Special Advisor to the President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester . In October 2006, Bradley was named non-executive director of The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust . Since 2007 he has been the Non-Executive Chair of the Manchester, Salford and Trafford Lift Company and a Council Member of the Medical Protection Society . He is a member of the Co-Opt Party.
