Keith Soothill

Keith Leonard Soothill (born March 25, 1941 in Whetstone , London , † February 12, 2014 ) was a British criminologist and social researcher .

Life

Keith Soothill was born in Whetstone, North London. His father worked as a sales representative and also taught for the Workers' Educational Association . His mother had worked in a butcher's shop before they married. When Soothill was in elementary school, the family moved to Raynes Park in south London and he received a scholarship to King's College School at Wimbledon . After high school, he worked in the advertising industry, studying philosophy and psychology at the University of Exeter . There he received his degree in 1965. Soothill continued his studies and received his PhD in sociology with Terry Morris at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1971 . The title of his dissertation was The Apex project: an evaluation of an experimental employment agency for ex-prisoners . From 1974 he taught and researched at Lancaster University . Here he spent his further academic career, most recently as a professor for empirical social research , and continued his research after his retirement in 2006.

Soothill was married and had two children, a son and a daughter.
