Kelby Halbert (born January 1, 1990 in Toronto ) is a Canadian ski racer . He lives in Bradford , Ontario and drives in all disciplines. With a height of 203 cm, he is one of the tallest ski racers.

biography

After some successes in the youth field, Halbert started in FIS races for the first time in December 2005 . The first appearances in the Nor-Am Cup followed a year later . Since the 2007/2008 season he has been a regular competitor in this North American racing series. In March 2008 he achieved his first top 10 results in the two Georgian Peaks slaloms , and eleven months later he just missed his first podium finish as fourth in the super combined at Mammoth Mountain . In 2009 and 2010, Halbert was Canadian runner-up in the downhill and in February 2010 he reached third place in the combination and fourth in the downhill at the Junior World Championships in France. He also won a total of seven FIS races in 2009 and 2010.

After these results, Halbert was accepted into the national squad of the Canadian Ski Association in May 2010. On December 9, 2010, he celebrated his first victory in the Nor-Am Cup in the second downhill from Lake Louise . The day before he was second on the first descent on the podium for the first time. At the end of the 2010/11 season , he took second place in the Nor-Am downhill classification, securing a World Cup fixed starting place in this discipline for the next winter. In the 2010/2011 season he had already taken part in three World Cup races in which he did not win any World Cup points. In 2011 he became Canadian downhill champion for the first time.
