Player career

society

Kalpakçıoğlu attended the renowned Galatasaray high school and played here in the youth department of the traditional Galatasaray Istanbul club - the club that was founded by students from the Galatasaray high school. Word of his footballing talent quickly got around in the Galatasaray community, so that in 1919, at the age of 20, he was accepted into the squad of the Galatasaray Istanbul football team. At the time of his entry into the professional squad, Istanbul was occupied due to the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I (see occupation of Istanbul ). After the Turkish teams no longer played a large part of this line-up, the İstanbul Cuma Ligi (German Friday League), the most prestigious league in the country at the time, was resumed in the 1920/21 season . Kalpakçıoğlu was in the squad from 1919, but did not get beyond the reserve role until 1923 and did not complete any competitive games.

With the end of the occupation of Istanbul and the establishment of modern Turkey, football was also reformed in Istanbul. After several Istanbul leagues such as the Friday League and Sunday League existed in parallel in some seasons and competed with one another, the Istanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ) was introduced in the summer . This league replaced or united all previous Istanbul leagues and ensured that all known Istanbul clubs played in the same league. Since there was no national professional league in Turkey at that time, regional leagues existed instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. Kalpakçıoğlu only established itself in this league within the professional team. In the 1924/25 season of this league Kalpakçıoğlu was Istanbul champion with his team. Kalpakçıoğlu played for his club until the summer of 1928 and won the Istanbul championship two more times during this time.

National team

Kalpakçıoğlu began his national team career in 1924 with a use for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Lithuanian national team . By July 1927, he completed eight more games.
