Ken Hom

Ken Hom OBE ( Chinese  譚榮輝 , Pinyin Tán Rónghuī ; born May 3, 1949 in Tucson , Arizona ) is an American chef , author and TV chef.

Life

Hom was born in Tucson in 1949 to Taishanese. He grew up in Chicago with his widowed mother since his father died when he was eight months old. He learned to cook in his uncle's Chinese restaurant. He studied art history at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1984 Ken Hom hosted a TV cooking show for the first time on the BBC , and the series Ken Hom's Chinese Cookery was a great success. In 2009 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire .
