Kenan Engin

Kenan Engin (* 1974 in Pertek , Turkey ) is a Kurdish political scientist , author and university lecturer who works in Germany .

Life

Engin emigrated from Turkey to Germany in 2000. He received his doctorate as a political scientist in the Department of International Relations at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He previously studied at Istanbul University, Heidelberg University, University of London and Harvard University. Between 2009 and 2014 he worked as a lecturer / lecturer at the University of Heidelberg, Heilbronn University, Mainz University, FOM Universities in Bonn and Düsseldorf and the University of Applied Sciences Worms . 2014–2015 he taught as an Associate Professor at the Tomsk Polytechnic University in Russia. He is Professor of Social Work / Political Science at the Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin.

Focus of work

Since 1995 he has been writing in various newspapers and magazines. His articles, poems and essays were written in German, English and Turkish a. a. in Die Zeit, Focus Magazin, NZZ , The Jerusalem Post , Mannheimer Morgen, deutsche Jugend , Migration und Soziale Arbeit , Hurriyet Daily News and Economic Review , Journal of Turkish Weekly , Eurasisches Magazin , Neue Gesellschaft / Frankfurter Hefte , at the FES-Forum , Radical and published by Gündem and on numerous websites.

His focus is on conflict research , nation-building processes , migration and refugee movements in the Middle East, Turkey, Iraq and Kurdistan. In view of the Arab Spring, Kenan Engin speaks of a fifth wave of democratization based on Samuel P. Huntington's theory of democracy, referring to parallels to the third wave of democratization in Latin America during the 1970s and 1980s.

In addition, he is an expert on various questions and topics relating to flight, migration and integration. As such, he has given lectures at numerous institutions a.o. a. Universities, ministries, cities, political parties and media in and outside of Germany.
