Ken'ichi Tago ( Japanese 田 児 賢 一 , Tago Ken'ichi ; born July 16, 1989 in Saitama Prefecture ) is a badminton player from Japan . He plays for the NTT East factory team .

Career

Tago, the son of badminton player Yoshiko Tago , won his first title at the Japanese national championships in men's singles in 2008. In 2009 and 2010 he defended this championship title. As a junior he had already attracted international attention when he became Junior Asian Champion in 2006.

In 2010 he caused a sensation when he became the first Japanese since Masao Akiyama in 1966 to reach the All England final. On the way there he defeated Joachim Persson , Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai one after the other . In the final he just lost to the reigning number 1 in the world rankings, Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia , with 19:21 and 19:21. The year before he was eliminated in Round 1 against Chen Jin. The same fate had befallen him at the Swiss Open Super Series 2009 , the Singapore Super Series 2008 and the Japan Super Series 2007 . He was more successful in 2007 in Scotland and in 2008 in Belgium. He was able to win both tournaments. At the Badminton World Cup in 2009 he was able to advance to the round of 16. In 2012 and 2013 he won the Japanese Badminton Championship .
