Kenneth Powell (born April 8, 1885 in London , † February 18, 1915 near Ypres , Belgium ) was a British hurdler and tennis player.

Life

Powell was born in Hampstead, London in 1885 . In 1905 he took up studies at Cambridge University and became a member of the local sports team.

From 1904 he took part in tennis tournaments, from 1905 in the Wimbledon Championships. At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , he took part in the 110-meter hurdles , but was eliminated in the first run. In the tennis competition he lost the singles in the first round to Otto Froitzheim , in doubles he reached the quarter-finals with his partner Walter Cecil Crawley .

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, he finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. In the tennis competition he no longer competed there.

At the Wimbledon Championships in 1913 Powell achieved his best result by reaching the quarter-finals. After the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, he was drafted and served in an artillery regiment. He fell near Ypres only about seven months later in February 1915 . His grave is in a cemetery near Heuvelland .
