Kent Liston Lee (born July 28, 1923 in Florence County , South Carolina - † August 11, 2017 ) was an American Vice Admiral . From 1967 to 1969 he was the fourth in command of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65) .

Life

Kent Liston Lee was born on July 28, 1923 in Florence County, South Carolina. On August 15, 1940, at the age of seventeen, he joined the US Navy . After training in flight, Lee became a naval aviator in 1942 before being promoted to officer on August 7, 1943 . He served on the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9) for the remainder of the war .

After the war, Lee studied mathematics and physics at Columbia University . In 1954 he graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a degree in physics . In the further course of his military career, Lee served, among other things, with Carrier Air Wing Six and as a commander on the USS Alamo (LSD-33) . From 1967 to 1969 he was the fourth in command of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65), with which he served in the Vietnam War .

After his time as commanding officer, Lee worked at Naval Air Systems Command, where he was involved in the design of the McDonnell Douglas F / A-18 , among other things . In October 1976, Lee retired from the military.

Lee last lived in Charlottesville . He was married and the father of two daughters.
