Keny Arkana
Keny Arkana ( keni aʁkaˈna , born December 20, 1982 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French rapper from Marseille . Her lyrics are very political, so she takes a clear stand against capitalism , fascism and globalization . She sympathizes with the Zapatistas from Mexico. She is also active in the globalization-critical movement La Rage du Peuple .
Life
Keny Arkana is the daughter of Argentine immigrants. She grew up in Marseille, where she started rapping in the mid-1990s. She has been engaged to rapper Ozan since 2015 .
Music career
In 1996 she joined the État Major collective, with whom she gained a lot of stage experience. It can be heard for the first time on Volume 1 . She was also active around the Mars Patrie crew. In 2003 she started a solo career. In 2005 she released the mixtape “L'esquisse”, which sold more than 50,000 copies. Then she got a contract with Indi Because. In autumn 2006, she released her first solo album, Entre Ciment et Belle Étoile , of which 50,000 copies were sold by the end of the year alone. In 2008 her second album Désobéissance was released . In the song Capitale de la Rupture , she sings against gentrification in Marseille.
