Kenya Barris (born August 9, 1974 in Inglewood , California ) is an American screenwriter , film producer and actor .

life and career

He is the screenwriter of several television shows that have been particularly successful in the USA , including the acclaimed series Black-ish and its spin-offs Grown-ish and Mixed-ish .

He is married to the anesthetist Rania "Rainbow" Barris, whom he met during his studies and with whom he has six children. In 2018, Barris donated USD 1 million to his alma mater, Clark Antlanta University, whereupon he received an honorary doctorate in literary studies .

Barris works against racism and supports the Black Lives Matter movement.

In 2020 he made his acting debut alongside Rashida Jones in the series #blackAF on Netflix, which he produced .
