Kepler Input Catalog
The Kepler Input Catalog ( KIC for short ) is an astronomical catalog that contains the data collected by the Kepler Space Telescope .
In accordance with the task of the telescope to search for extrasolar planets as part of an intensive survey of a certain area in the starry sky , the catalog therefore contains data on the objects. This patterned area extends over a right ascension of about 18 h 30 m to 20 h 10 m and a declination of about 37 ° to 52 ° north. This area is in the constellation Swan . The data are u. a. the following information:
- Position, i.e. right ascension and declination on January 1, 2000 at 12 o'clock (J2000)
- Proper movement in milli-arcseconds per year
- Trigonometric parallax
- Values in up to eleven different frequency bands , including the three of the 2MASS survey
- Cross references to other catalogs
- an indication of whether a galaxy or a star is
For stars, the calculated or estimated information on:
- temperature
- Attraction
- Metallicity
- BV color index (see also color-brightness diagram )
- Absorption in the visual partial spectrum
- radius
Some entries are targeted objects for the calibration of the telescope and are therefore in completely different regions. Objects with an apparent brightness of up to 21 mag were recorded, but not all objects brighter than 21 in the selected region are in the catalog.
