The notched summer root ( Orobanche crenata ) is a plant species from the genus of summer root ( Orobanche ) in the family of summer root plants (Orobanchaceae).

description

The kerbige summer root is a parasitic plant, the stems of which are up to 50 (rarely up to 80) cm high and about 1.2 cm wide. At the base they are only slightly swollen and have sparsely tomentose hair and yellow color. The leaves are 12 to 25 mm long and ovate-lanceolate and are dense in the lower part, only sparsely in the upper part.

The inflorescences are up to 20 (rarely up to 50) cm high and about 4 cm wide, tomentose, mostly dense in the upper part and loosely built further down. The bracts are 15 to 25 mm long and linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate and pointed long. The calyx is 10 to 20 mm long, the sepals are free and are more or less two-toothed. The crown is 20 to 30 mm long, almost hairless, protruding-upright, straight or slightly curved and bell-shaped. The color is white, the lips are often veined with purple. The lips are divergent, the lower one has large, almost circular lobes that are not eyelashed. The stamens are hairy and set about 2 to 4 mm above the crown base. The anthers are hairless. The scar is white, yellow, or pink.

The fruit is a capsule with a length of 10 to 12 mm.

Occurrence and locations

The species is common in southern Europe, but is also occasionally found elsewhere. It parasitizes on legumes (Leguminosae), rarely also on other plants.
