The Kernersee in southern Saxony-Anhalt is one of the Mansfeld lakes southeast of Eisleben , in what is now the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt, and the largest remaining body of water in the Salziger See, which was drained in the 19th century .
The largest tributary of the Kernersee is the Böse Sieben , there is no natural drainage. A pumping station at the southeastern end of the lake draws water from the lake and feeds it into the Weida, a few meters east (and higher) , which is called Salza from there .
There is a sewage treatment plant on the eastern shore of the lake .
The Kernersee was created, together with the Bindersee , located about a kilometer to the west , after the salt lake was largely drained from 1892 to 1894.
