The Ōma nuclear power plant ( Japanese 大 間 原子 力 発 電 所 , Ōma genshiryoku hatsudensho ), also Ohma in English , is being built near the town of Ōma in Shimokita County in Aomori Prefecture . Construction began on May 7, 2010. The Higashidōri nuclear power plant is also located in the same district .

The reactor will have a net electrical output of 1,325 MW and a thermal output of 4114 MW. The originally planned commissioning in March 2012 was postponed to November 2014 for the time being in accordance with new legal regulations for protection against earthquake damage. Commissioning was expected in December 2014 in 2021. In September 2016, the commissioning date was postponed again, this time to the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. In September 2018, commissioning was postponed to the year 2026, as the reactor had to undergo an extended screening.

The owner is the energy producer Dengen Kaihatsu, which operates under the J-Power brand. Ōma will be Dengen Kaihatsu's first nuclear power plant.
