Kert Kingo

Kert Kingo (born March 5, 1968 in Tartu ) is an Estonian politician . From May 16 to October 25, 2019, she was Minister for Foreign Trade and Information Technology in the Ratas II cabinet .

Life

Kert Kingo graduated from Tallinn Business School ( Tallinna Majanduskool ) with a law degree in 2001 . She then worked for the Estonian Police , a subsidiary of SEB and the Estonian Finance and Customs Authority.

politics

In September 2015, Kert Kingo joined the Eesti Konservatiivne Rahvaerakond (EKRE). There she took over the party leadership in the Tartu area and Jõgeva district in the next few years.

In the general election in 2019 succeeded her party votes and seats to more than double. Kingo managed to win one of the now 19 seats. After Marti Kuusik had to resign as Minister for Foreign Trade and Information Technology after only one day in office, she followed him on May 16. Shortly after taking over the ministerial office, however, she also came under fire when she announced that she only wanted to undertake a few trips abroad and only wanted to speak Estonian abroad. After that, she stayed in the headlines and had to resign in October 2019 after making false statements to parliament about the hiring of a consultant. She then returned to Parliament ( Riigikogu ) as a member of the EKRE .

Private

Kert Kingo is married. In addition to Estonian, she speaks German, Russian and English. Her hobbies include photography and gardening.
