Kertu Sillaste

Kertu Sillaste (born October 24, 1973 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian illustrator and children's book author.

Life

Kertu Sillaste studied textile art at the Estonian Art Academy in Tallinn from 1992 to 1996 . In 1997 she trained at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris in the subject of picture knitting.

She lives with her family in Saue near Tallinn .

Kertu Sillaste is best known in Estonia and beyond as an illustrator and children's book author. In addition, her work has been shown at numerous exhibitions in Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Italy and Great Britain.

She has received several literary awards for her work. Your children's book Ei ole nii! (“No, that's not the way it is!”) Was included in The White Ravens of the International Youth Library 's prestigious list of recommendations for children's and young adult literature .

In addition to her work as an illustrator and author, Kertu Sillaste works as a graphic designer at the Central Library of the Estonian capital Tallinn and teaches art at the Estonian Children's Literature Center. She works closely with the Estonian children's magazine Tahke .

Kertu Sillaste is a member of the Estonian Association of Graphic Designers and the Estonian Section of the International Board of Trustees for Young People's Books (IBBY).
