Kerygma and dogma. Journal for theological research and church teaching ( KuD for short , sometimes also K + D ) is a traditional specialist journal in the field of Lutheran theology founded in 1955 with the help of Wilfried Joest . The international editorial group of Lutheran theologians wants to accompany church teaching and action theologically as well as promote ecumenical dialogue. The editor of the magazine is currently with Christiane Tietz .

Annually are published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht four issues.

Kerygma denotes the proclamation that is bestowed on a candidate for baptism before he is baptized into the church ; dogma is a doctrine that is considered true and relevant with reference to divine revelation, the authority of the ecclesiastical community or the ecclesiastical magisterium, or special knowledge.

Many research results on fundamental theological questions on theodicy , predestination and eschatology as well as on material theological topics such as speaking with God, self-awareness of Jesus, the presence of Christ, the Church of Christ and the limits of the Church, baptism, the Lord's Supper and ministry have found their way into the journal , including the first public report of the Jaeger-Stählin-Kreis .

The first edition was opened with the revised and expanded contribution "Wisdom and Folly" by Edmund Schlink (one of Joest's teachers), which he had given as the inaugural address to his rectorate. Joest's essay from the same booklet on the Lutheran formula “simul iustus et peccator” received a lot of attention.

Schlink's drafts for KuD were partly preparatory work for articles in the RGG .

By 1967 the magazine had developed into a leading theological organ of world Lutheranism, which is spread in many countries around the world.

In 2005 KuD gave an overview of the dispute on the fundamentalism-resistant handling of the Holy Scriptures.
