Position and shape

Kesselwandferner and surrounding mountains seen from the Fineilspitze

The Kesselwandferner is located a little north of the main Alpine ridge above the Rofental , an extension of the Venter Valley , which in turn is a side valley of the Ötztal . The highest point of the glacier is at the 3497  m high Fluchtkogel , the end of the tongue was in 2010 at approx. 2700 m. The Kesselwandjoch, which is completely covered by ice, forms the boundary between the Kesselwandferner and the Gepatschferner and thus forms a glacier divide . The Kesselwandferner is an alpine valley glacier .
